Carnivore Diet: Spread Awareness with a Fashion Statement
Inspired by Dr. Shawn Baker, a carnivore diet advocate. Exploring ways to spread awareness and spark conversation about healthy habits and diet.
Recently, I have been fascinated by the carnivore diet. As someone who is passionate about reading ingredient labels, I loved the idea of an animal based diet & no processed foods.
About two years ago, I went gluten free. I have been having migraines and muscle pain my entire life. Even as a child, my parents took me in for an MRI because of my weekly and almost daily episodes. The results were always inconclusive. After trying everything... (dry needling, chiro, cupping, peppermint oil, exercises, ENG scans, MRI, allergy and ENT doctors) I was frustrated. Never had any health practitioner mentioned diet.
My husband's sister had similar neck pain and headaches. Then one day her friend recommended a gluten free diet, and to her surprise, she didn't have headaches anymore! I was skeptical about it. After one pivotal moment of having two beers and half a pizza leaving me with the worst hangover sickness of my life, I decided to give it a go.
It was a difficult transition for me, especially as someone who grew up eating pizzas, pasta, and hamburger helper. But, this was when I began my journey of reading ingredients!
Going gluten free was simpler than I thought it would be. Watch out for "wheat"! I read every ingredient of everything to be safe. It took about a month for the results to fully kick in but I noticed I felt better immediately! It was by far the best decision for my health I have ever made.
What I didn't know going into this "gluten free lifestyle" is that it would turn into more than just a diet...
It was a snowball effect for healthy habits!
The more I read ingredients, the more I hesitated to buy processed food. I mean... have you ever read the ingredients of a pizza or tortilla?! I was astounded by the amount of ingredients that seemed to be in a different language. And, it's even more inspiring to find a "one ingredient label." ✨
As I became more interested in diet, I sprinkled a few things into my free time like looking up new recipes, reading recipe books, counting protein intake, scrolling instagram accounts of diet advocates, and learning more about food in general!
Dr. Shawn Baker, I first discovered through a Joe Rogan podcast. He is a carnivore diet advocate and I was drawn to the conversations he started about the life changing effects this diet had on people.
As I watched more of Dr. Shawn Baker's videos, I started to notice the trend of his tee shirts always representing the carnivore diet with a phrase. As a graphic designer, I became intrigued with the trend and it sparked a thought to make something bigger out of it!
There are a lot of movements out there but as someone who was so unaware of the impact a diet can make on a person and how much it personally changed my life, I wanted to do my part to advocate and challenge our populations perspectives on diet vs. medicine. Noticing Dr. Shawn Baker's shirts was something that inspired me and something as simple as a tee shirt could be that spark to a conversation that someone like me might need.
Spreading awareness with a fashion statement! Having a tee shirt that sparks conversations and advocates for a healthy diet and overall improvement to your health. 🤓 I hope this post serves as inspiration to others. Let me know your thoughts on this idea in the comments!
Although I have researched some natural remedies and I am inspired by healthy living, I am not a medical practitioner and I have not studied in the medical field. I am a devoted designer that loves to solve design problems with a desire to make a healthy impact on others through inspiration.
